The Democrats Without Borders (DWOB) was founded in 2011 and is a strategy and communication team comprised of the chairs of the tri-cities area local chairs (Chesterfield, Colonial Heights, Dinwiddie, Hopewell, Petersburg, and Prince George).
DWOB was awarded the Innovation Award by the Democratic Party of Virginia at the annual Jefferson Jackson Day meeting on June 29, 2013. Hopewell Chair Bettie Washington was selected by DWOB to represent the team and to meet Vice-President Joe Biden at the JJ Banquet.
The DWOB meets weekly by conference call to plan coordinated upcoming events, political activities, and to discuss local committee challenges. It also sponsors an open Facebook group of the same name to broaden the exchange of ideas among Democrats regardless of their location. DWOB operates by consensus, has structured calling schedules and agendas, and engages the state party and the political campaigns as appropriate.
The founding and current chairs are Bernie Vogelgesang (Chesterfield), Jeff Blaha (Colonial Heights), Ruby Evans (Dinwiddie), Bettie Washington (Hopewell), Brian Moore (Petersburg), and Carol Dois Woodward (Prince George).
Delegate Rosalyn Dance of the 63rd Virginia House District has been the team’s advisor and supporter and is frequently invited to update the team on legislative, political and community matters,
