Public Hearing on March 27, 2012

The Prince George County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on the setting of real and personal property tax rates for the coming year.

The Business Meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. and the pubic hearings are the last items of the agenda.  The public hearing on the tax rates are the very last agenda item.

Real property assessments have dropped for the last two years without any raise in the real property tax rate to offset the loss of revenue.  However, the Supervisors were just elected or re-elected to four-year terms last November, so will feel safer raising the tax rates this year.  Raising rates may be warranted depending on what services we as citizens want and what mandates the federal and state governments have passed on to the localities.

Also on the agenda are public hearings are a rezoning request by Nathaniel Dozier for  29 +/- acre parcels  off County Drive from R-A, Residential Agricultural to B-1, General Business.  Dozier is also requesting special exceptions for various commercial, storage and other uses  for the same parcel.

The Tax ID numbers for the parcels are 340(0A)00-118-0 and 340(OA)00-119-0.

Comments by citizens during the public hearings will likely be time limited and must be related to the subject of the particular public hearing.

There is however a public comment period immediately after the Pledge of Allegiance.  At this time citizens are free comment on any topic within any time limits set by the Board.  Someone might want to sound off on the plan of the County to pay three times the assessment for  the 167 acre +/- Buren Tract to build ball fields.

See you at the meeting.
