The 16th VA Senate Democratic primary race took an interesting turn with the announcement that latecomers to the race, Joe Morrissey and Derik Jones didn’t collect the required number of valid signatures to run as Democrats in the Democratic Primary on June 9.

The !6th has only a small footprint in Prince George County.  Courts is the only precinct totally in the 16th, while there are portions of Jefferson Park and Rives precincts included.

There is more behind this story from a local perspective, but there are so many threats of legal suit, that we will leave that back story out of this post to protect the innocent.

Morrissey, Derik Jones fail to qualify for Democratic primary – Richmond.com: Virginia News And Politics.

See all at the PG Dems meeting on Thursday, April 2 at the Prince George Social Services (Human Services) Building.  You may want to take notes. Note meeting begins at 5:30 p.m.

Many candidates vying for nominations in the June 9 Democratic primary are likely to be in attendance at the meeting. Sheila Bynum Coleman, announced candidate for the 62nd Virginia House District, and Senator Rosalyn Dance, 16th Virginia Senate District, will be at the meeting. Both were on the agenda for the March meeting which had to be canceled due to inclement weather.

We may also have a presentation from the Resolutions Committee, Chaired by Pete Washington. The committee has been working on language for a Single Member Voting Resolution to be adopted by the Prince George Democratic Committee.

The PG Dems meet at 5:30 p.m., at the Prince George Social Services (Bldg #12), 2450 Administration Drive, Prince George Government Complex. Meetings are open to the public, are non-smoking, and the building and 1st Floor Meeting Room are ADA accessible.

More information will be forthcoming if it develops.2013-05-04 08.58.55

The Board dealt with the issue of the the vacant District 2 seat for only about 30 minutes at its March 9 Budget Work Session.  The three nominees named last night were Bill Elliott, Marlene Waymack, and Sheila Minor. Note the absence of Reid Foster as a nominee.  If the Board cannot find a compromise candidate or that third vote cannot be found for Waymack or Minor then the Chief Judge of the Circuit Court will make the decision.  None of the 13 contenders are out of it yet.

There is a regular Board of Supervisors meeting tonight. Work session begins at 6 p.m. County Admin Building, third floor.

Community Day, Democrats, PG Dems Booth, Prince George County Virginia, vademocrats.org

On Saturday, May 5, the PG Dems hosted a Committee Booth at which we registered three new voters, accepted membership applications from 4 new members, made $123.50 in donations and Obama Campaign material sales, and made many new friends.  All of this happened in a little less than three hours.  We had to start knocking down our canopy and packing up about 12:30 as we watched a thunderstorm of epic proportions (if not epic, at least exciting) approach.  This red, red Virginia county now has one more exposure to Prince George Democrats.
